Dim the lights, and pull up a chair. In Bessie and the Grey Lady, I will share some highly personal ghost stories and paranormal experiences straight from the Appalachian Mountains where a nosey ghost refuses to be excluded; a hideous figurine brings a family to crisis; a traveler is guided by a mysterious local who points out some alarming landmarks; an over-protective mother returns from the dead to oversee her distrusted daughter-in-law; and an embattled, young girl is tempted by an evil spirit to trade her burdens for a soulless existence. These and many more spirits lurk within this collection, for in my family everyone had a ghost story - or two or three - even the skeptics.
In these stories you will find no local folklore, urban legends, theatrical campfire tales, short stories with slick plots, or paranormal investigators with their electronic gadgets and cameras. Instead you will meet my family and hear the stories we recounted when the conversation turned spooky.

I love books about ghost stories even though they stopped being scary a long time ago. What the best ones do is give the reader an insight into the culture of the storyteller - what their daily lives were like, what they feared, how they interacted, and what they hoped for. While this book could stand a better editor - it's full of typos and incorrect words - the stories are great, and the author certainly gives a picture of mid 20th century appalachian life.Product details

Bessie and the Grey Lady Eerie Tales from an Appalachian Family eBook Rhonda Hughes Reviews
I was highly disappointed in this book. While expecting a regional array of ghost stories, the scariest plots dealt with hillbilly life done in a disjointed manner.
Every Chapter is full of detailed surroundings and crawling with suspense, I did not want to put this book down. Rhonda Hughes places you right there watching and witnessing every story. Even if you are not from the Appalachian area to be familiar with that way of life, you will feel like your right there with them.
Just beyond the ghost stories lies the real story. A genuine portrait of life in 1970’s Appalachia. A life full of superstition, mysticism, disfunction and also heroism and bravery of the children who survived it.
